About

 State Rep. Lisa Dunkley

Born and raised in Jamaica, migrated to United States as a young adult with my baby daughter and siblings. I am a proud military veteran, entrepreneur and mother who has lived and worked in District 97 for over twenty-five years. As a candidate for State Representative of the District, I bring a diversity of experience that allows me to fiercely advocate for my district in Tallahassee. My entire life experience has prepared me for this moment to serve the people of District 97.

Leadership, advocacy, and problem-solving are my strengths. Having worked for the Department of Transportation, I understand budget analysis and that a budget must be balanced, but I also recognize that everyone needs their fair share, and assigning priorities is equally essential to making things better. Additionally, my leadership experience working in the non-profit sector has helped me to embrace advocating for my community’s needs and to understand that the strong, resilient, and proud people of this district want government to understand and meet their needs for an opportunity to be overall “better”.

Having personally experienced the outcome when home cost increase, I am very passionate about making sure that no homeowner loses their home or renters buckling under the pressure of rental costs.

Moreover, my experience as a former youth director and Middle School PTA president, I have seen the untapped resources that can be garnered as an alternative for young adults to develop and materialize into their futures. As your state Representative, I will be working with Florida’s education committee to look at education in a new light where our students at the middle and high school level have more exposure to career skills and vocational learning as an additional option for them to have a successful life.

As a veteran myself, I have worked tirelessly to meet and connect Veterans to the resources and information available to them. I strongly believe that no one who has made the incredible sacrifice to serve his or her country should be without the resources they need to live and survive when they return home. In Tallahassee, I will continue to ensure that the veterans in District 97 are getting the information they need to help them use and apply for their benefits.

Improved home ownership, education and veteran affairs are issues I know are a pathway to a District 97 that thrives and prosper!

Better you, and a better community!
